comprised of five loosely but fundamentally-connected segments, i write the words, but i yell within is a book of gritty stories in verse: avadore, woman silenced for eternity; jamaal, serial killer who turns to his dead mother for guidance and instruction; reese, jamaal's hard-living, estranged uncle; and wheelchair-bound mister fred swanson, simultaneously grieving his role in a vehicular manslaughter and attempting to find meaning in life through both his employees and his curious, opinionated grandson.
